Col. Hadfield had a fairly heavy schedule of interviews before the shuttle launch on April 20, 2001. The first task for Chris Hadfield and Scott Parazynsky after joining the ISS was to install the UHF antenna on the outside of the Destiny module.
Many of these pictures were taken as the International Space Station travelled past Northern Australia on the way to the continent of Africa on the morning of April 21, 2001. The tasks involved the removal of the $17 billion Canadarm 2 from its storage container. [The SPDM (Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator), popularly known as the "CanadaHand" is being constructed at Brampton, Ontario, for the year 2003. With senses of touch and sight, it will carry out the maintenance currently done during Extra-Vehicular Activities by astronauts.]
