The Casa Loma Organist

Eric Robertson entertained guests during the evening by playing the Mighty Whurlitzer Organ. I recall seeing that fine gentleman Horace Lapp play this organ at the Shea's Hippodrome Theatre during the intermission. The entire organ with organist made a spectacular entrance as they rose from the right side of the stage. In the 1950's, the Whurlitzer was moved to Maple Leaf Gardens where hockey fans were moved to fever pitch by the strength of the organ's sound. In 1974, the Mighty Whurlitzer was moved to Casa Loma, where Pat and I attended the inaugural ceremony with the Kiwanis Club of West Toronto (who have managed the castle for many years). During the years in which I had the pleasure of belonging to the club, Mr Horace Lapp was the official pianist. This evening revived many fond memories in me.
