The Opening Ceremonies were scheduled for 12:30 p.m., but there were delays mainly due to the long line-ups for food. The Toronto Police Pipe Band, wearing the Dress Ross tartan, had entered the events, but failed to show; it was rumoured that the band went to the tattoo in Edinburgh instead. The show was a huge success in spite of these minor points.
